[Small Wedding in Korea] Chinese-Korean wedding in Seoul

On April 30th, at Jongno in the Cafe Banjul, we had the chance to attend the beautiful wedding of a Korean-Chinese couple.

Jongno Cafe Banjul, Seoul

The Cafe Banjul is a place where you can enjoy various performances and exhibitions every week, giving the place a different atmosphere every time

The bride and groom with WEDIT

The groom Park Boin and the bride Yangpei used to enjoy arts, performances, and culture during their dates.
What if we had a wedding in our favorite cafe, the cafe Banjul?
This is how we were able to make this beautiful wedding together with the Banjul Cafe manager and team.

Wedding Day

In fact, the couple had a wedding in China before where Yangpei family and friends were all gathered.
On April 30th, the wedding ceremony in Banjul Cafe was held so the family and friends of the bride and groom living in Korea could also attend their wedding.

Preparation

Before the wedding, the bride Yangpei and WEDIT shared with us the details needed for their ceremony preparation and we helped them settled up everything.
(Our team can speak Chinese so there was no communication problem! :-) )
Indoor decoration
In China, there is a culture in which the bride gives tea to the guests who came to the wedding ceremony.
WEDIT had arranged Chinese teas and ceramics in consideration of this custom, and the Chinese wedding ceremony was well integrated into Korean wedding ceremony so that the cultures of both countries were harmonized as much as possible.

The photo table was decorated with a gold color mirrors and chairs to create a vintage atmosphere, matching the unique colors of Banjul.

Welcoming the guests and the ceremony

The bride and groom entered the house with the guests clapping and shouting.
The groom made is entrance full of confidence
Then the bride walked down the aisle with her father
The two of them laughing at each other, as they bumped each other’s head when bowing.
After that, the newlyweds talked to their guests about who they will be to each other in the future by reading their vows.
The groom’s father gave precious words to his loving daughter-in-law who just became part of the family.
The groom’s father, in regards to the Chinese guests, also gave a speech in Chinese. It was a moment filled with emotions between the father and his son who grew up so well and brought such a wonderful wife in the family.
The bride and groom's parents
The bride who puts on the ring smiled brightly watching the groom kissing her hand.
The end the ceremony, was full of happiness and pleasant laughs.

Second part

After the ceremony on the rooftop of the Banjul Cafe, all the guests had lunch together.
Then the second part of their ceremony was continued on the 4th floor of the Banjul Cafe.
In this second part of the ceremony, the couple gave musical performances such as a sweet piano performance by the groom Park Boin, which they enjoyed with all the guests.
The bride, the groom and the guests gathered all together to create a meaningful place by enjoying and singing together, and this day became a precious time that meant more than just a wedding.

After the wedding

After the wedding, Yangpei sent us a message to thank us for all the hardships we went through during the wedding preparations. The couple said that, thanks to WEDIT, they were able to successfully make this wedding happen and the guests also thanked all the team.

[International Wedding In Korea] When the Korean tradition meet the Western tradition

Danielle from Chicago and Kyumin from Seoul, who have met like a fate and fell in love in Korea, have dreamed of a meaningful intimate wedding which could satisfy both American and Korean cultures.
This is the reason why they combined both traditional Korean wedding ceremony and Western reception and night party. Take a look at their beautiful wedding story.

Part 1 Preparation

Danielle and Kyumin, who introduced the most traditional Korean wedding possible to their guests coming from the USA and other countries also planned an after party so that they would not be too confused by the cultural difference.
For the ceremony, they chose the place called Unhyeonggung and as an after party, they chose this one-of-a-kind River that we already introduced you for Nari and Brodie wedding.

You can also see our cute international Danielle and Kyumin couple snapshots, dressed in beautiful hanboks here ! (*in Korean only)
Kyumin dressed up finely and folded the Danielle's jacket
The bride's younger brother was also dressed in Hanbok
Their friends and family all came to celebrate this wonderful day
Their foreign friends started to arrive to the venue and were full of curiosity and happy to experience a traditional Korean ceremony
Guests taking pictures of the bride and groom
The two mother made their entrance caring geese as a symbol of the bride and groom
Time for the Kyumin and Danielle to make their entrance
The bride's mother couldn't hold back her tears
The ceremony ended smoothly and the newlywed couple received the guests blessings.

Part 2 The After Party

After a meaningful traditional ceremony, they came to The River where the Han River sight by night was as nice as always.
The bride was dressed in a stylish black dress and attended as the protagonist of the party.
Using a projector, the bride and groom have created a video of their meeting and love story from their childhood to their present, giving the guests a great smile.
In a box, guests put message notes prepared by WEDIT to congratulate and wish happiness to the couple.
The bride and groom picked up and read these message cards one by one and enjoyed memories with their guests.
The party kept going with fun games like the "Shoe Game" that has been done a lot in America these days.
It is a game where the newlyweds take off their shoes, hold the groom's shoes in one hand and bride's shoes in the other, sit without facing each other and make quizzes, putting up the shoe of the person who fits to the answer the best. "Who has the worst sleeping habit?", "Who is better at kissing?" And so on.
The party lasted until late at night, and the guests has been offered variety of activities such as learning salsa dance, cutting and sharing the cake, etc. All this, with a beautiful view on the river. The guests from abroad and those from Korea did not know each other but they did spent and enjoyed this unique time together, which made this ceremony very meaningful.

Thank you, Danielle and Minkyu for this significant cultural mixed ceremony, we wish you all the joy and happiness you deserve!

What you should keep in mind when choosing a wedding venue in Korea

If you heard or searched about weddings in Korea, you probably heard about wedding halls. If you decide to get married in one of those fancy buildings, you will have, for an indecent price (and I am not saying that in the good way), a one or two hours ceremony before being asked to leave quickly because it is the next couple turn, in a factory mood. Fact that is quite interesting when you learn that the traditional Korean wedding could last days (or months).

As couples are having their wedding simultaneously without a break, you can imagine that you will not be able to decorate the place as you wish because the next couple might not like your green and white tastes and there is no time to change it into a light pink mood between your and their wedding.

Also, all along your ceremony, you will be surrounded by the staff interfering in order to fix your dress, hair or makeup while the photographer will guide you in all your moves, without any freedom possible. And for some reasons, you will also realize that your once-in-a-lifetime day pictures will strangely look very similar to the other couple once-in-a-lifetime day pictures.

Concerning your guests, you will be able to see them by far as you walk the aisle. You will also greet them quickly (very quickly) as you walk around the place before they go eat with the other guests of the other weddings... Without you (sometimes they will even eat while watching your ceremony).

Then, you probably wonder, in this Korean wedding market which is a real business, where can I get married differently, in a place that fits me and that allows me to make that day a moment shared with my loved ones?

There are at least five different kind of wedding you could have, here in Korea:

Korean Traditional Wedding

Since you are in a country which is still close to its traditions, why not having a real traditional Korean ceremony? Even if this kind of wedding is very long and tiring both for the bride and groom because of the uncomfortable clothes (especially for the bride) and the continuously bows and stand ups, it will allows you to immerse yourself in your partner or your traditions in a very Korean scenic place. This option is perfect when done during spring or fall.

Adela Hanok or Songdam Gotaek in the Gyeongi-do offers very traditional look places for that kind of ceremony.

Restaurant or Cafe Wedding

Restaurants and cafes are a good option for a venue if you wish to decorate the place more easily or to enjoy a better food, drinks or desserts. Also, as tables and chairs are already on the spot, you will not need additional fees to rent these.
Some restaurants and cafes also have very nice rooftops or terrasse.

Banjul Cafe, Danoi 218 or Cheongdam Pentarium also are very nice restaurants and cafes to have a special and nice atmosphere ceremony.

Outdoor Wedding

If you wish an outdoor wedding, you have here again several options. Either you can do it in a garden or in a public park. We do not recommend public parks as it will not be that intimate and personal. Indeed, not only your guests but also random walkers will have the chance to see how pretty is your dress or how good is the buffet.
On the contrary, we do recommend the garden of a pension, a gallery or else, especially during spring or fall.

For exemple, our recommendations, among others, would be the Hill House or the Praum Music Instruments Museum.

Pension Wedding

As we said, pension can be very nice for outdoors wedding but they also offer indoor spaces. Plus, even if the transportation is usually not very convenient, you can enjoy your day outside the busy town and spend more time with your guests by renting the rooms for the night. Most of the time, pensions do not provide any food, tables, chairs, etc and you will have to make all the decoration as well.

A lot of couples who come to see us appear to be interested in Seulberg Pension for exemple or the M&M Pension as well.

Gallery Wedding

Concerning galleries, they will allow you to choose between several very different designs. Even though decorating a gallery can be more difficult comparing to other places, a clear decoration ca also give a very nice mood to a wedding.

The Songeun Art Space is nowadays very popular and the Songra Art Forest has also a nice potential.
