How does WEDIT help you having a wedding ceremony in Korea

Now that we talked about how a wedding hall ceremonies could be seen and why they are so different from Western weddings, I will tell you how we can help you making the ceremony that looks exactly like you, here in Korea.

As we probably said a lot already, WEDIT has a FINAL GOAL to change the wedding market in Korea and to do so, we try to offer you ceremonies that fits YOU. Like you could find in Western countries, the wedding ceremonies we plan are smaller, more customized, more intimate, less « factory » like. Even if we have to talk budget at some point, we like to concentrate on who you two are, what defines you and how we can those meanings to your guests by your wedding.
Chelsea & Andrew

We used to say to our couples that wedding preparation is a succession of different quests. And WEDIT is the place you can come back in anytime when the quests are so difficult.

Our job is simple to define : we support you in all the tasks you need to do while planning your wedding. We recommend you venues and vendors, contact them for you, arrange meetings for you, do the interpretation if you need to (in English, Chinese, Japanese, Russian) and  discuss all the details of your wedding with you and other partners. We often do follow-up meetings but we are constantly in touch via kakaotalk or other messengers. (if you forget something, we are always here to help you remember !)

We also help you mixing your culture for a multi-cultural ceremony and we often calm down the stressed and worried parents who are not used to this new and different culture.

We’ll find you a place, the right course meal for your guests, a dress, a tux, a photographer, a makeup artist and the decoration that fits you. And if you don’t need our help for all of it, that is also totally fine ! We wil follow your lead :)

During the preparation, we do give you some homework though ! Homeworks to help you figure out what you two want, and to help us knowing what you want as well, of course.
During the first meeting for example, we’ll offer you games to help you define yourselves as a team.
Then, we’ll ask you to make several tools like a scrapbook with images of your dreamed decoration and such.

And finally we take control of the venue, the vendors and the proceedings the day of your wedding so you can only think of enjoying YOUR day and spending time with your guests.
Hyunha & Joseph

Wedding in Korea, from traditional to wedding hall ceremony

Last time, I talked to you about my feelings concerning wedding hall ceremonies.

<About Korean Wedding Hall Ceremony, in the point of view of a foreign guest>

But then I asked myself, why is it like that ? How and why is it different from the wedding ceremonies I know ?

How is it different ?

One of the first big differences is probably the length of the ceremony. Compared to other cultures where the ceremony can last a whole afternoon and night, a wedding hall ceremony will last no more than 30 minutes.

Then, several weddings take place in the same building while in European culture, for example, the wedding will be in a private place so unknown people cannot invite themselves.

Prices are also confusing. Indeed, if you get to meet a wedding planner, they will offer you packages with what they call the "스드메" (studio, dress, makeup) but you will not know how much is the dress, or the makeup exactly. And weirdly, if you wish to have your dress from someone else, the package price will go up.

Plus, the decoration is very standardized. No customized decoration; if you have the chance to have choice, you will still not be able to modify it from A to Z.

Mandatory things are countless. Wanted some freedom at your wedding to choose your decoration, your scenario, the way you want your pictures ? It is not the right ceremony for you; the wedding planner will control everything, in a very standard proceedings.

Moreover, in European culture, 50~100 guests wedding are not uncommon but in wedding hall, most of the time, you will have a countless number of guests. Most of them will be absolutely unknown people because they will be your parents' friends, coworkers or other acquaintances.

And finally, when western culture see the wedding as a festive day to spend with the bride and groom, it will be very difficult (or impossible) in wedding hall ceremony to spend time the main characters of the day.

Why is it different ?

The difficult question is now, why is it like that ? Why did Korea went from a very traditional wedding ceremony to this kind of ceremonies which want to look more westernized?

We can look at history first:

If we follow the thoughts of few authors, this change would be due to a society of consummation which push people to control and create their image following the one they admire, which is in Asia, the European image.

This is probably why, due to their absence in the Korean traditional wedding, we can feel that the meaning of the proceedings is reduced and that the ceremony is more like a show.

Indeed, in the Korean traditional ceremony, there is no aisle, no officiant as we have in western culture, no vows, no greeting speech, etc etc.

Even if every culture change and grow over time, an important ceremony like a wedding has a logic and a cultural aspect that is anchored in a country. But through the quick change of the Korean wedding ceremony, we can absolutely feel the (very) quick modern Korean society change.

Some will like this change, others will not but it sure is the reflect of the society.
This is only a thought so do not hesitate to leave a comment and let us know your opinion!

[Small Wedding in Korea] Chinese-Korean wedding in Seoul

On April 30th, at Jongno in the Cafe Banjul, we had the chance to attend the beautiful wedding of a Korean-Chinese couple.

Jongno Cafe Banjul, Seoul

The Cafe Banjul is a place where you can enjoy various performances and exhibitions every week, giving the place a different atmosphere every time

The bride and groom with WEDIT

The groom Park Boin and the bride Yangpei used to enjoy arts, performances, and culture during their dates.
What if we had a wedding in our favorite cafe, the cafe Banjul?
This is how we were able to make this beautiful wedding together with the Banjul Cafe manager and team.

Wedding Day

In fact, the couple had a wedding in China before where Yangpei family and friends were all gathered.
On April 30th, the wedding ceremony in Banjul Cafe was held so the family and friends of the bride and groom living in Korea could also attend their wedding.

Preparation

Before the wedding, the bride Yangpei and WEDIT shared with us the details needed for their ceremony preparation and we helped them settled up everything.
(Our team can speak Chinese so there was no communication problem! :-) )
Indoor decoration
In China, there is a culture in which the bride gives tea to the guests who came to the wedding ceremony.
WEDIT had arranged Chinese teas and ceramics in consideration of this custom, and the Chinese wedding ceremony was well integrated into Korean wedding ceremony so that the cultures of both countries were harmonized as much as possible.

The photo table was decorated with a gold color mirrors and chairs to create a vintage atmosphere, matching the unique colors of Banjul.

Outdoor decoration

Welcoming the guests and the ceremony

The bride and groom entered the house with the guests clapping and shouting.
The groom made is entrance full of confidence
Then the bride walked down the aisle with her father
The two of them laughing at each other, as they bumped each other’s head when bowing.
After that, the newlyweds talked to their guests about who they will be to each other in the future by reading their vows.
The groom’s father gave precious words to his loving daughter-in-law who just became part of the family.
The groom’s father, in regards to the Chinese guests, also gave a speech in Chinese. It was a moment filled with emotions between the father and his son who grew up so well and brought such a wonderful wife in the family.
The bride and groom's parents
The bride who puts on the ring smiled brightly watching the groom kissing her hand.
The end the ceremony, was full of happiness and pleasant laughs.

Second part

After the ceremony on the rooftop of the Banjul Cafe, all the guests had lunch together.
Then the second part of their ceremony was continued on the 4th floor of the Banjul Cafe.
In this second part of the ceremony, the couple gave musical performances such as a sweet piano performance by the groom Park Boin, which they enjoyed with all the guests.
The bride, the groom and the guests gathered all together to create a meaningful place by enjoying and singing together, and this day became a precious time that meant more than just a wedding.

After the wedding

After the wedding, Yangpei sent us a message to thank us for all the hardships we went through during the wedding preparations. The couple said that, thanks to WEDIT, they were able to successfully make this wedding happen and the guests also thanked all the team.

WEDIT was also touched more than once during the preparation and the ceremony of this lovely couple.
We will always remember Yangpei and Boin who allowed us to live this touching experience, and we are the one thankful for offering us these warm moments.
